The Sands is situated to the far west of the Shetland mainland in the small village of Sandness, just 4 miles from Thordale Shetland Stud and Driving Centre and 45 minutes from Lerwick.

Sandness is a small, welcoming community with a population of approx 200. It is notable for its beautiful sea views, fine cliffs and stunning sunsets. Shetland, as a whole, is renowned for being excellent walking country with many fine coastal routes, interesting archaeological sites and is a favourite for bird watching, fishing and wildlife.

The Sands is a traditional storey and a half croft house built around 1900 and has been updated over the years. This comfortable croft house can sleep 6 easily and comprises of:-

Kitchen - fully and well equiped with an electric cooker, washing machine, microwave, kettle and toaster
There is also a fridge and deep-freezer
Living Room and dining room (combined) with ample comfortable seating and television
Bathroom with a bath, basin and toilet
Bedrooms - One double bedroom and two twin bedrooms

Heating is provided with electric panel heaters. Cooking and water heating is also electric. This is included in the rent.

Bedding & towels will be provided. A cot and highchair are also available.

The Sands is a non-smoking, no-pets property.

There is adequate car parking and easy access to the beach, which is just a stones-throw away. This beach is spectacular. The beautiful long stretches of sand and shingle are at the mercy of the weather and environment so it constantly changes, providing a beautiful setting for this lovely traditional croft house. This is a very special place.

The public telephone is close by as well as the nearby village of Walls, which has a good shop, post office, bakery, swimming pool and health centre.

All bookings are per week, Saturday to Saturday, unless agreed in writing at time of booking. Bookings are from 2pm on the day of arrival to 10am on the departure (subject to unavoidable delays). The Sands is £150.00 per week from November – March and £250.00 per week from April – October. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to guarantee booking.

Getting to Shetland

By Sea: Northlink Ferries (www.northlinkferries.co.uk) operate a comfortable overnight car ferry from Aberdeen to Lerwick.

By Air: Flybe (www.flybe.com) connect to Shetland through the main Scottish airports of Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow. They fly worldwide with connecting flights down to London too.
